A Moroccan drone strike in the Sahara territory killed, on Friday, the Commander of the sixth military region (known as Mahbes) and three other polisario members, as reported by the separatists.
Abba Ali Hammoudi, who is close to Brahim Ghali, was reportedly leading an attack west of the berm (sand wall) when the drone hit the convoy, as per the testimony of informed sources.
The Moroccan military operation was aimed at eliminating any illegal movements inside the buffer zone.
Hammoudi was also a member of the national secretariat elected during the congress held on January 13th in the notorious camps south of Algeria. The meeting was marked by the controversial reelection of Brahim Ghali for another three-year term as Secretary-General of the polisario.
This incident bears resemblance to the 2021 attack where Ghali survived and the polisario’s gendarmerie chief perished while attempting to infiltrate the Rouss Irni area in Tifariti.
