Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita held talks with the official in charge of the duties of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government of National Unity in Libya, Taher Al Baour, on Wednesday in Cairo, regarding the ongoing state of affairs in Libya.
The two officials held the meeting during the 161st session of the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers.
Bourita said in his speech at the Arab ministerial meeting that Morocco will continue to work towards providing conducive conditions and creating a suitable environment to reach a comprehensive political settlement in Libya.
The Moroccan minister added that the settlement will be achieved through organizing fair and transparent electoral processes, away from external interventions, ensuring that Libyans run the political process based on the Libyan Political Agreement signed in the city of Skhirat in 2015, as a general framework for the political solution in Libya.
The Foreign Ministers participating in the Arab League Council called on the Libyan parties to commit to the Skhirat Agreement as the basis for a comprehensive settlement of the crisis in Libya that has been ongoing for years.
They also stressed the importance of adhering to the Libyan Constitutional Declaration, its amendments, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and to hold presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously as soon as possible.
The ministers emphasized the need for commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and independence of Libya, and rejected all forms of foreign interference in its affairs.
