National Police of Marrakech arrested a 35-year-old French citizen Wednesday pursuant to an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities, following intentional homicide and international drug trafficking cases, according to a security source.
The source added that the DGSN referred to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database and identified the suspect as the subject of a “red notice” issued at the request of the French judicial authorities. The individual had been facing a prison sentence following his involvement in cocaine trafficking and participation in a murder as part of settling scores between drug trafficking gangs in France.
The wanted foreigner is apparently suspected of forgery and use of forged documents. Police seized forged French and foreign identity documents bearing his personal information at his residence in Marrakech at the time of his arrest.
The suspect was remanded into police custody pending further investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
The Interpol Bureau in Rabat is responsible for notifying the relevant French authorities of his detention before initiating extradition procedures.
