France was the top investor in Morocco in 2023, with a net total of MAD 6.8 billion, marking a significant increase of 79.5% from MAD 3.8 billion in 2022, according to Morocco’s Foreign Exchange Office.
This investment accounted for 61.4% of Morocco’s Net Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), the Office’s 2023 annual report on the country’s balance of payments and international investment position showed.
Other investors were the United Arab Emirates, with a net FDI of MAD 2.3 billion in 2023, slightly up from MAD 2.2 billion in 2022. The UK came third with MAD 1.8 billion, down from MAD 2.6 billion the previous year. Spain and Germany each contributed MAD 1.5 billion.
Overall, Morocco’s net FDI amounted to MAD 11.1 billion in 2023, a decrease of 51.7% from MAD 23 billion in 2022. The decline was attributed to a 35.8% increase in expenditure to MAD 23.5 billion and a 14.1% decrease in revenue to MAD 34.6 billion.
