Rachida Dati, France’s Minister of Culture, is currently on vacation in Morocco, her country of origin, staying in the capital of Rabat, where she reportedly has been re-enjoying her country’s local attractions and cuisine.
Dati dined recently at Terracotta, a restaurant in the coastal town of Harhoura near Rabat. The restaurant’s director told reporters that Dati “enjoyed her meal” and showed “great modesty,” interacting with other diners and joining their tables. Patrons “warmly received” her gesture, he said, and took photos with the minister.
But Dati’s trip is not all play. She took the opportunity to reaffirm her support for France’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. She has been a strong advocate of France’s official acceptance of Morocco’s autonomy plan, describing the move as “historic.”
Dati was also among the distinguished guests at a reception hosted by King Mohammed VI on Throne Day in July.
She is expected to be part of the delegation accompanying French President Emmanuel Macron during his planned visit to Morocco at the end of September.
