Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has threatened to sue Donald Trump over a story the former president shared, according to The Independent.
Trump claimed that he and Brown narrowly survived a helicopter crash, during which Brown allegedly spoke ill of his former girlfriend, Kamala Harris.
During a recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump told the tale, which now appears to be entirely fictitious.
He claimed that the incident took place while they were traveling to a “certain location” and that Brown made derogatory remarks about Harris during the emergency landing.
Brown, 90, swiftly dismissed the entire story, stating “he had never done business with Trump and wouldn’t have ridden in a helicopter with him.”
He also denied ever speaking negatively about Harris, calling Trump’s story “creative fiction” and “far-fetched.”
Trump and Harris are currently running in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, with Trump seeking a second term and Harris potentially running as a Democratic candidate.
Brown, who briefly dated Harris in the mid-1990s, emphasized his respect for her, describing her as a “good friend” and “absolutely beautiful and smart.”
He also suggested that Trump’s tale was entirely fabricated, with no basis in reality.
The former mayor indicated that he might take legal action against Trump to stop him from spreading falsehoods.
Brown said that if Trump sues The New York Times newpaper for labeling him a liar, he would consider suing Trump in response.
Some speculate that Trump might have confused Brown with other figures, such as former California Governor Jerry Brown or ex-California State Senator Nate Holden, both of whom had experiences with Trump in helicopters.
However, none of these individuals confirmed Trump’s version of events.
