Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering support and King Mohammed VI’s commitment to the Palestinian cause at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Monday.
Speaking at the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting during the 79th session of the UNGA, Bourita highlighted King Mohammed VI’s commitment to the Palestinian people.
Bourita stated that Morocco places the Palestinian issue on par with its national interests, making it a cornerstone of its foreign policy.
The Minister reiterated Morocco’s support for the Palestinian Authority in safeguarding the legitimate rights of Palestinians.
Bourita outlined four priorities set by King Mohammed VI, including the urgent need for de-escalation to achieve a permanent ceasefire.
He stressed the importance of protecting civilians according to international humanitarian law.
Furthermore, he called for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and promoted a political perspective to revive the two-state solution.
Bourita underscored the significance of preserving Al Quds’ character and its historical status as a center for coexistence among major religions.
In addition, he spoke about Morocco’s commitment to South-South cooperation, emphasizing partnerships with African nations in key sectors like food security and health.
The minister recalled King Mohammed VI’s remarks at the 13th NAM Summit, highlighting the need for enhanced cooperation among African countries.
He noted the King’s international initiative aimed at providing Sahel and Sahara countries access to the Atlantic Ocean.
This initiative reflects Morocco’s solidarity with Sahel nations and underscores the King’s focus on human development and sustainable growth in the region.
