Morocco’s national police have arrested two young girls for allegedly desecrating the Quran in a street in Marrakech, local media reported.
The girls were seen walking down the street, holding a Quran while shouting hysterically and making blasphemous remarks about Islam religion.
Upon being alerted to the incident, police rushed to the scene and caught the girls. An investigation has been launched to clarify the circumstances of the case.
According to Article 267 of the Moroccan Penal Code, the two girls face potential penalties of six months to two years in prison, along with fines ranging from 20,000 to 200,000 MAD for insulting Islam religion or the monarchy, or for inciting actions that could harm the territorial integrity of Morocco.
