The Global Coalition Against Daesh commended the critical role of the Africa Focus Group in combating terrorism during the 10th-anniversary ministerial meeting held on Monday.
Co-chaired by Morocco and# Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Italy, the group was lauded for its coordination of regional efforts to counter growing extremist threats across Africa.
In a joint statement, coalition members explained the importance of continued collaboration with African nations through the Africa Focus Group. The group has played a central role in mobilizing African partners to take an active stance against the expansion of ISIS and other terrorist organizations on the continent.
The statement also called for heightened efforts to counter extremist propaganda and destabilizing actions of non-state armed groups in Africa, which pose a threat to regional security and undermine efforts to combat terrorism.
Chaired by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, brought together delegations from the coalition’s 87 member countries, including Morocco, represented by Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
The coalition’s ongoing efforts, particularly through the Africa Focus Group, have sought to counter terrorist networks, disrupt their financing, and stabilize regions liberated from extremist influence since the group’s formation in 2014.
Morocco’s leadership in co-chairing the Africa Focus Group is particularly noteworthy for its contributions to enhancing cooperation with African nations in the fight against ISIS.
