Abdeltif Loudyi, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for the National Defense Administration, met with Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the British Senior Military Advisor for the Middle East and North Africa, on Tuesday at the National Defense Administration’s headquarters in Morocco.
Accompanied by the British Ambassador to Morocco, the two officials discussed the regional security landscape and the bilateral defense cooperation, according to a statement from the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
The two parties’ discussions focused on enhancing collaboration, particularly in areas such as interoperability and the exchange of experiences between the two nations’ armed forces.
On the same day, Major General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone, also met with Ahlgren. They explored various facets of cooperation between the FAR and the British Armed Forces, which include training initiatives, exchange visits, and joint military exercises.
Berrid reaffirmed the FAR’s strong commitment to deepening military cooperation with the British forces to expand collaboration into additional areas of mutual interest, including intelligence sharing, border surveillance, electronic warfare, and cyber defense.
Military cooperation between Morocco and the UK is guided by an agreement established in 1993, along with technical arrangements that focus on strategic consultation, training, and knowledge exchange.
Regular joint exercises, such as “Jbel Sahara,” “Toubkal,” and “African Lion,” further strengthen this partnership. Bilateral activities are held according to a schedule set by a joint commission that meets annually, alternating between Rabat and London.
