Morocco’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced the launch of a national awareness and screening campaign for breast and cervical cancers from October 1 to 31 under the slogan “Your exam today is safe and reassuring…. Don’t hesitate.”
Under the program, patient care is provided through twelve oncology centers and two centers of excellence in Rabat and Casablanca, along with some private oncology clinics.
The campaign’s goal is to raise awareness, particularly among women in targeted age groups. Breast cancer accounts for 39.1% of all cancer cases among women in Morocco, followed by cervical cancer at 6.5%.
The ministry highlighted the importance of early detection to improve survival and treatment outcomes.
A structured screening program has now been integrated into primary healthcare services.
Fifty-five reproductive health centers and twenty-four mobile mammography units have been set up to serve women in remote areas.
The government has also implemeted organizational measures to facilitate access to screening, early diagnosis, and treatment.
These efforts have led to the early diagnosis of 64.5% of breast cancer cases, ensuring more effective treatment, according to the statement.
