Air safety is an absolute priority for Morocco, Minister of Transportation and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil said on Tuesday in Marrakech.
During the opening ceremony of the World Safety Aviation Conference (WSOC), Abdeljalil highlighted Morocco’s commitment to adhering to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) standards for air travel safety, ensuring safe flights for all passengers.
He also highlighted Morocco’s goal of expanding air travel safety and sustainability, in preparation for the country’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Morocco plans to expand air transportation safety and sustainability, to serve 65 million passengers in total by 2037.
Over the next 20 years, Morocco’s aviation sector is expected to grow significantly with passenger numbers forecast to increase by 50% in 2043 from 2024, according to The International Air Transportation Association (IATA).
Morocco is pushing forward with key initiatives to privatize air transport services and expand Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport, with plans to increase Royal Air Maroc’s fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037. Significant investments are being made to modernize the country’s 26 airports, 18 of which are international.
The 2024 WSOC, held by the IATA and hosted by Royal Air Maroc, will focus on pressing issues such as artificial intelligence, geopolitical risks, turbulence management, and energy efficiency, while fostering collaboration among aviation professionals and key industry decision-makers.
