Six people were killed and ten others were wounded in a shooting and knife attack in the Israeli seaside city of Jaffa, just minutes before Iran launched a large missile strike on Israel, according to The Guardian. Five of the injured are in serious condition.
CCTV footage captured two men, armed with an assault rifle and a knife, dressed in black as they emerged from a train at a light-rail stop on Jerusalem Boulevard. They opened fire on pedestrians and continued their attack on a nearby street.
The video showed several bodies lying under the station awning, and social media images allegedly depicted one of the attackers executing a wounded person on the ground.
Reports indicate the assailants targeted passengers on the Tel Aviv light rail before fleeing on foot and attacking people on Jerusalem Boulevard.
Israeli Security forces allegedly killed the two gunmen, while police searched for a potential third attacker, prompting nearby buildings to go into lockdown. Initial reports suggested that the two deceased attackers were from Jaffa and Hebron.
Israel’s ambulance service said it received a report at 7.01 p.m. (local time) of people injured by gunfire. Medics provided on-site treatment for various injuries, including some unconscious victims.
The attack comes as Israel prepares for the Jewish high holidays, beginning Wednesday with Rosh Hashanah and ending on October 11 with Yom Kippur. Tensions have been high in Israel due to ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon and escalating issues with Iran.
Footage after the attack showed one of the gunmen dead in the street, raising questions about whether the shooting was coordinated with the Iranian missile strikes.
