US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken expressed appreciation for King Mohammed VI’s “crucial voice” in advancing “a more peaceful and secure” Middle East region on Wednesday.
During a meeting with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Bourita, Blinken recognized Morocco’s “leadership” in responding to humanitarian needs in Gaza, “supporting stabilization” in the West Bank, and “contributing to the revitalization” of the Palestinian Authority.
Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, Morocco has actively supported humanitarian aid to Gaza. In June, Morocco became the first country to transport by land 40 tons of humanitarian aid to the war-torn Palestinian territories.
The secretary also “welcomed” Morocco’s ongoing efforts to “end the political stalemate in Libya and address instability in the Sahel.”
The US official also discussed efforts to advance regional and global peace and to strengthen the U.S.-Morocco partnership.
In a post on X, Blinken said that the discussion revolved around the “strong U.S.-Morocco strategic partnership” and ways to achieve shared security objectives in the region.
