The Moroccan government is closely monitoring the situation of Moroccans in Lebanon as military attacks on Beirut escalate, Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, said on Thursday in Rabat.
Morocco has put a crisis response unit at the service of Moroccans residing in Lebanon to ensure their safety, Baitas announced during a press briefing following the government council’s meeting.
A number of Moroccan citizens and their families have already left Lebanon safely thanks to the intervention of Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad.
The crisis unit in Beirut is maintaining direct contact with Moroccan citizens still in the city, receiving their calls and providing them with guidance to ensure their safety and security.
With Lebanon embroiled in Hezbollah’s deadly conflict with Israel, its capital Beirut has been a prime target for Israel’s aerial bombing campaigns which started on September 23, that have killed as many as 570 people in a single day.
Israel continued bombing various regions in and around Beirut on Friday.
A source close to Lebanon’s Hezbollah group told the AFP news agency that Israel conducted 11 consecutive raids in what has been described as “its most violent attack so far on Beirut.”
