Gabon reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom to resolve the regional dispute, during a meeting of the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly on Monday.
The Gabonese representative expressed strong support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, describing it as a “solid” initiative with” promising prospects” that could help end the regional conflict and lead to an acceptable and credible political solution.
The Gabonese diplomat noted the growing international support for Morocco’s plan, stating that over 100 countries have already endorsed the initiative, which aligns with the principles of the United Nations Charter.
The representative also applauded the ongoing efforts of the UN Secretary-General to seek a realistic, pragmatic, and durable political solution to the conflict, as recommended by Security Council resolutions since 2007.
Gabon commended Morocco’s socio-economic progress in the southern provinces, attributing it to the 2015 development model. He also applauded the Kingdom’s investments and structural projects, particularly the establishment of consulates, including Gabon’s Consulate General in Laayoune and Dakhla.
