A medical student in Marrakech reportedly died by suicide on Saturday after ingesting a considerable quantity of dangerous drugs, local media reported.
Identified as Abd al-Ghani, the student fell unconscious at home after swallowing the pills and was rushed to Mohammed VI University Hospital, where he later died.
The student’s family told the media outlet “Le Site Info” that he took his life because of the heavy pressure faced by medical students in Morocco. “Abd al-Ghani lost hope of becoming a doctor following his suspension.”
The relatives asserted that “he was working tirelessly to fulfill his and his family’s dreams, but was deeply shaken by his dismissal from the faculty.”
They explained that Moroccan medical students are advocating for a return to classrooms and for the seven-year program to be maintained instead of the proposed six years.
