Nigeria is partnering with Morocco’s “E-move Vehicles Company” to launch local electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, according to a report from “The Electricity Hub” on Tuesday.
The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) announced the partnership on November 4 following a recent Nigeria-Morocco Business Forum.
NADDC Director-General Joseph Osanipin highlighted the potential for the initiative to establish Nigeria as a key player in the African EV market.
After a conversation with Morocco’s E-move, Osanipin said he is enthusiastic about the partnership’s potential.
“This collaboration allows us to advance local production and transition to energy-efficient mobility,” Osanipin stated. NADDC is hopeful that E-move will set up manufacturing operations in Nigeria, supporting the nation’s goals of sustainability and energy transition in the transportation sector. E-move is known for its electric motorbikes, tricycles, and energy storage systems.
The Nigerian delegation also visited Univers Acier Steel, a leading Moroccan component supplier for the automotive industry, seeking to expand Nigeria’s access to EV components and bolster local assembly capacities.
By partnering with Univers Acier, Nigeria aims to develop a robust supply chain that supports local manufacturing and creates employment opportunities, while also contributing to the country’s economic growth.
