Two men have died in violent incidents in south London on Sunday, one in a shooting in Sydenham and another in a stabbing in Walworth, according to The Guardian.
Police responded to the shooting at around 10:10 a.m. (local time) on Wells Park Road in Sydenham. Emergency services found a man with gunshot wounds who later died at the scene.
A woman with gunshot injuries was admitted to the hospital, though her condition is not life-threatening. Another individual also went to the hospital with injuries believed to be from gunshots.
Commander Peter Stevens of the Metropolitan Police called the attack “a senseless act of violence,” noting the shock of such an incident on a Sunday morning in a residential area.
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and police were working to identify the deceased man and notify his family.
In a separate incident, a man was killed in a stabbing at East Street Market in Walworth, which occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. Police arrested a man in his 60s at the scene, where they found three people with stab wounds.
One victim died at the scene, while a man and a woman were hospitalized with injuries. The identity of the deceased man has not yet been confirmed.
Witnesses reported that market traders helped subdue the alleged attacker until police arrived.
The police are not treating the stabbing as an act of terrorism and have stated they are not seeking any other suspects.
