Fez judicial police referred eight individuals suspected of running an illegal abortion medication network on Friday, according to security sources.
Investigators caught one suspect in the act, in possession of 50 abortion pills. Investigations revealed that the suspect was a supplier of these medications to a nurse working in a private clinic in Fez.
A search of the residence of one of the suspects led to the confiscation of 49 additional pills, medical equipment, and other medications used for abortions, pregnancy tests, and multiple medical certificates.
Authorities also recovered a sum of money believed to be proceeds from the illegal activity.
Two suspects have been placed under pre-trial detention awaiting their court proceedings, while the others remain under judicial supervision for further investigation.
In Morocco, abortions are illegal unless it is to safeguard the life of the mother.
